What changed in AI search, 29 October to 6 November 2026

What changed in AI search this week puts AI agents at checkout and memory into product picks, while Reddit loses search clicks to Google's AI.

TL;DR

  • Microsoft Clarity’s study of 29 October 2026 found checkout in 25.21% of sessions involving AI agents and 14.65% of human sessions.
  • Profound found saved personal context roughly halved the overlap of shopping recommendations, so one tracked ChatGPT answer shows one buyer’s version.
  • Online shops should use Microsoft Clarity’s Agent Activity dashboard, available to all users since 4 November 2026, to see which AI agents reach checkout.

What AI agents do on websites

Microsoft Clarity found on 29 October 2026 that checkout appeared in 25.21% of 5.2 million sessions involving AI agents and 14.65% of human sessions. The sessions came from 230,511 projects between 13 August and 9 September 2026, and Clarity can’t separate agent from human activity within a session. Clarity opened an Agent Activity dashboard to all users on 4 November 2026, and shops should use it, since a checkout that stalls an agent can lose the sale unnoticed.

Clarity compared three actions:

Checkout appeared in 25.21% of sessions involving AI agents and 14.65% of human sessions, in Microsoft Clarity’s study.
Figure 1. Checkout appeared in 25.21% of sessions involving AI agents and 14.65% of human sessions, in Microsoft Clarity’s study.

Clarity recorded form submissions in 19.85% of agent sessions and 18.56% of human ones, and outbound clicks in 14.28% and 26.99%.

Reddit search referral traffic

Reddit’s third-quarter letter to shareholders, released on 29 October 2026, says search referral traffic fell meaningfully and dropped by more than 1 million referrals a week on average in October. Steve Huffman, Reddit’s chief executive, told CNBC the cause was the “shift to AI mode and AI overviews.” Buyers who stop clicking can still meet a brand in Google’s answers, so brands measure AI search revenue by asking every customer how they found them.

Personal context in AI recommendations

Allison Huang, an AI strategist at Profound, published on 29 October 2026 a test of 2,240 answers to 14 shopping prompts on ChatGPT Instant and Meta’s Muse Spark. Lists for users with and without relevant saved memories overlapped about half as much as one user’s repeated lists. Given relevant memories, ChatGPT put users’ details into 19% of its searches, so a tracker that runs prompts without memory shows one buyer’s version.

Channels growing as organic search shrinks

Kevin Indig’s Growth Memo of 2 November 2026 found in Similarweb data that organic traffic fell 13% in the US and 24% in France from August 2024 to August 2026. Direct visits fell 3.4% and 5.3%, and Indig blames part of the organic fall on more search ads. Buyers who met a brand in an AI answer often return through direct or Google, so falling organic clicks undercount what AI answers bring.

Two channels grew:

Email visits grew 16.3% and paid search 20.8% in the US from January to August 2026, against the same months of 2025.
Figure 2. Email visits grew 16.3% and paid search 20.8% in the US from January to August 2026, against the same months of 2025.

In Indig’s data, email visits grew 16.3% in the US and 17.0% in France from January to August 2026 against 2025, and paid search 20.8% and 20.3% without googleadservices.com.

Newspapers sue Brave over its index

The Daily News, the Chicago Tribune and the Orlando Sentinel sued Brave Software on 2 November 2026, and The New York Times filed its own suit the same day. The complaint says Brave copied over 30 billion webpages with a crawler site owners couldn’t block and fed them to Ask Brave and AI companies such as Anthropic. Brave’s index feeds Claude’s web search, so a brand that wants Claude to cite it should check its pages appear in Brave Search.

Agentic checkout in Canada

Google began rolling out direct checkout in Google AI Mode and the Gemini app for Canadian shoppers on 4 November 2026. The checkout runs on the Universal Commerce Protocol, a shared standard that lets AI agents buy from retailers. Eligible retailers include lululemon, select Shopify merchants, Shoppers Drug Mart and Simons. Those retailers gain sales that close inside the answer, while others wait for the Merchant Center setup planned for next year.

Bing’s AI Mode and AI Overviews

Microsoft’s Search with AI page for Bing says, as of 6 November 2026, that Copilot Search has become two experiences. AI Overviews put a sourced summary at the top of Bing results, and AI Mode is a tab for follow-up questions. Each engine answers from its own sources, so a brand checks its place in Bing’s AI Mode apart from Google AI Mode and ChatGPT.
