Google expands ads in AI Mode to 10 more countries

Google is expanding ads in AI Mode to 10 countries and plans the UK for Q4 2026, and existing Search and Shopping campaigns qualify automatically.

TL;DR

  • Google announced on 28 October 2026 that ads in Google AI Mode are expanding to 10 countries, including Australia, Canada and India.
  • Google Search, Shopping and Performance Max campaigns qualify for ads in AI Mode automatically, and Google plans Brazil, Mexico and the UK for Q4 2026.
  • Google Ads advertisers should review negative keywords and brand exclusions, because Google offers no way to opt out of AI Mode ads separately from Search.

What changed

Google is expanding ads in AI Mode to 10 more countries, the company announced on 28 October 2026. The new countries are Australia, Canada, India, Kenya, Malaysia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines and Singapore. Shashi Thakur, vice president and general manager of Google Search Ads and Ads on Google Experiences, wrote: “In Q4 2026, we plan to expand to additional locales, including Brazil, Mexico, and the United Kingdom.” Google has not announced an exact UK date or EU plans.

Multiturn ads, which show ads in follow-up queries in AI Mode, are launching in the US only. Ads in AI Mode carry a “Sponsored” label. Google wrote that queries in AI Mode are on average three times longer than traditional searches, and that sponsored and organic product list items already get similar click-through rates there.

Existing Search, Shopping and Performance Max campaigns are eligible automatically, according to Google’s help page on ads in AI-powered experiences, so advertisers do not need new campaigns or separate budgets. Advertisers cannot target ads only to AI Mode or switch them off there separately from Search. The ads run in the same auction with the same cost-per-click bidding as Search ads, and their results sit in aggregate in standard campaign reports and the search terms report.

As of 29 October 2026, the help page lists ads in AI Mode in English, in the United States and the 10 new countries, with text ads only in Pakistan. Ads within Google AI Overviews run in the same markets plus Indonesia.

What it means

Advertisers in Australia, Canada, India and seven other new markets should review negative keywords and brand exclusions, because their Search, Shopping and Performance Max campaigns enter AI Mode with no separate opt-out. Broad match and AI Max for Search can match an ad to the AI response as well as the query, so check the search terms report for long questions. Paid ads do not influence Google’s organic AI responses, so getting pages into Google AI Overviews is separate work.
